Create 4K Screenshots

Peoples who can run smoothly a 4K Skyrim fully modded are rare. The 4K definition in addition with a fully retextured of the game (2K,4K) cost a lot of FPS.
But screenshots are not gameplay. You can lose fps during your screenshots session. The goal is the result of the image, not your fps. 

First, what is 4K?

4K refers to a horizontal resolution in the order of 3840 pixels and vertical resolution in the order of 2160 pixels.
Reminder: 2K or fullHd is 1920 pixels/1080 pixels.


So, why turning the game in 4K for some screenshots?
Mainly to obtain the finest result for your eyes.
Turning into 4K is very useful if your game is made with 4K textures.
512, 1K, 2K textures will not be better.
The most important is the textures source.

Examples:

• You use an armor in 4K textures: It is useful to make 4K images.
• You use a body texture in 4K: It is useful to make  4K images.
• You don't retex your game: 4K definition is useless
• Your game is close to vanilla: 4K definition is useless 
• you use 2K/1K textures for all your game: Stay on 2K, even for screenshots

Do you have the GPU to make 4K images?

Yes, the majority of GPU can do it. Refers to the trademarks of your GPU to know that ( search maximum resolution)
Several years ago, my first GPU on Skyrim was a GTX 680 (2gb memory). I was able to do 4K screenshots.

Do you have the screen to make 4K images?

The screen doesn't create 4K. The screen only display the 4K.
You can create 4K images even with a 2K screen or lower.
The GPU is the most important. Your GPU creates the image and the definition.
This is like our body. The brain creates the image, then, our eyes display the image.




So, here are simple images to turn easily your Skyrim in 4K. This is easy.

STEP 1: open your ENBlocal.ini

 STEP 2: Change the " AddDisplaySuperSamplingResolutions " to TRUE. then, save and exit.

STEP 3: Launch the "vanilla" Skyrim launcher. Go in "Options"

STEP 4: In options, select the new definition available : 3840*2160. Then save and exit (OK)

 

STEP 5: Your game will be in 4K. Just launch your game with your standard SKSE_loader.

Your fps will be low..it is normal  :)  Now, you just have to take your screenshots.

Your fps will depend of the  modding degree of your game (mainly textures size, meshes quantity, cost of your enb.)

  This solution provides the best result. This is not an upscalling. This method allows to obtain a true native 4K.

To be sure your new screenshot is in 4K, the size of one image is 32 Mb in Bitmap format. ( yes , it's huge). To upload your image on various websites , i recommend you to convert it in jpeg format.

I recommend a strong compression, but not too much. You mustn't lose too much quality.

The original image is 32mb in bmp....you can convert it in jpeg with a size of 2mb. The quality stays good and details are still here.

When you make an image in 2K, the size is only 7.91 mb in bitmap format.
